Aadhaar Support GroupThis is a group for foreign ladies married to Indian men. The group meets for social events twice a month, and occasional family events. Book ClubThis group meets on the second Tuesday of every month, from 1pm-3pm. The books covered range from the classics to the more contemporary, and include authors from all over the world. Recently, the group has read and discussed books such as 'The Death of Vishnu' by Manil Suri, 'Wuthering Heights' by Emily Bronte, 'The Relectant Fundamentalist' by Mohsin Hamid, and 'Eat, Pray, Love' by Elizabeth Gilbert. Bridge GroupThe Bridge Group meets every Thursday afternoon. Coffee MorningsCoffee mornings are held every fortnight on a Wednesday, starting at 10:30am. Each meeting takes places in a different home, and volunteers are always needed to host future coffee mornings. The coffee mornings are a great way for those, both old and new, to meet, exchange information, and catch up on news and events. Often, speakers and exhibitors are also invited along. Previous guests have included Yogesh Malhotra, who gave a talk on 2 projects he works on; 'Human Milk Bank' and 'Rain Water Harvesting'; Ravi Malhotra from Continental Jewellers who gave a talk on diamonds; and volunteers from various NGOs talking about their work, for example, the Slum Rehabilitation Society. Ladies attending coffee mornings are asked to give a 100 Rupees donation and a contribution to the Dry Goods Collection, both of which are given to charity. Craft GroupThe craft group meets every Thursday, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., to make crafts for the annual sale in November. All proceeds go to commendable charities in Mumbai. All materials and ideas are provided, and there is something for every skill level. All that is required is a willing pair of hands! Dinner ClubHosted at a different restaurant each month, the dinner club provides an ideal way to relax and make friends with other expats in Mumbai. You can come alone, or with spouses, partners, and friends. Hopping Bunnies Baby and Play GroupThis group meets weekly, hosted in volunteers' homes throughout Mumbai. Contact mumbaihoppingbunnies@yahoo.co.in Mah JongThis group meets every Tuesday morning at 10am for a stimulating game of Mah Jong. This fun tile game, originating from China, has similarities with many Western card games. Old-hands and beginners are welcome. Mumbai Mums Support GroupThis group is run by mothers for mothers with babies up to 12 months. Meetings take place on the first Wednesday of each month from 10am - 11:30am, in Malabar Hill, South Mumbai. Babies can be weighed and measured, and advice is available on issues such as feeding, weaning, introducing solids, and sleep problems. Expectant mothers are also welcome. There is a lending library containing books on issues related to pregnancy and childbirth, and information is available on having a baby in India, hospitals, doctors and pediatricians. This is a volunteer group and a donation on 250 Rupees is requested to help cover costs. All eventual profits will go to charity. The group is also always on the lookout for volunteers to help run this project, particularly expat midwives, nurses, and doctors. Scottish Country DancingHeld on the second Monday of each month at 8pm, in Breach Candy, South Mumbai. Scottish expats may also be interested in joining the Mumbai Caledonian Society. Social EventsMumbai Connexions hosts a variety of social events throughout the year. These include an annual black-tie Spring Ball, a Christmas Luncheon, Wine Tasting, Craft Mela, Charity Dinner and Dances, and much more. See our Photo Gallery. Tennis and GolfMembers get together regularly to play tennis and golf. Voluntary WorkThere are many opportunities for members to become involved in voluntary work. Mumbai Connexions has a Charity Committee that helps support local charities and provides voluntary assistance to them. As well as providing donations, in the form of money, food, and clothing, volunteers are also required to provide hands-on help. For example, our members work with the street children in Byculla and Nagpada, amongst others, and organise annual day trips. Volunteers are often required to help with classroom activites at local Orphanages, or are sought by NGOs to help children with their reading, or to teach English. Recently, Mumbai's first Fair Trade shop opened (Karigar in Prime Mall, Irla) providing opportunites for volunteer work in research and sales.
